Arlene Director Schnitzer ’47 was a prominent patron of the arts and philanthropist. She was the founder and director of the Fountain Gallery, in Portland, Oregon, and the namesake of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, a Portland performing arts center.

Schnitzer attended Westlake School from 1945 to 1947 and was only the second Jewish student admitted to the school. By establishing Harvard-Westlake’s Visiting Artist Program, she hoped to improve the climate for Jews and others who faced discrimination at Westlake and elsewhere.
